Biking from Haines along Chilkat River to Camp

June 25, 2006

We left Haines on our bikes around noon and followied the Chilkat River thru the Bald Eagle Preserve. It was overcast and we encountered some sporadic, but mild rain. No eagles were spotted as the peak time is in November. We camped several miles north of the Canadian Customs station at a remote, beautiful site located on the former Haines Highway, in the Tatshenshini/Alsek Provincial Park,  British Columbia. We were accompanied by Sockeye Cycle's Thom Ely and his father Ted, who drove the support van and cycled with us part of the time. Note: Click on image for larger picture in a pop-up window.
