LARGER INDIAN ARTIFACTS

Below is a listing of grinding stones of the type used by native Americn Indians to process seeds and nuts to make edible foods and other products. Their origin is unknown. The dates aquired were in the 1960's or earlier. Some of the pieces were found during excation of a housing development on San Rafael Terrace in Pasadena, CA in 1957. The smaller hand held stone (mano or pestle) that are shown with the larger bowl or flat stone (metate or mortar) illustrate how the two stones were used and are not the original mates.
